The Paper Boat
A boat with no one to sail it, and an afternoon to find out where it wanted to go.
Read it as words
One bright afternoon, your companion went down to the shore, where the water keeps its own slow time.
There, rocking in the shallows, sat a paper boat. No name on its side. No one on the shore but your companion.
A boat is a question, and your companion had found one.
So the afternoon went: the boat leading, your companion following, the sun leaning lower with every step.
At the bend of the bay the boat turned once, the way a friend turns at a gate, and went on alone.
And your companion, walking home under the first stars, understood that some things are not for keeping. They are for seeing on their way.
